Position Summary
KDW is seeking an Assistant Superintendent based in the Austin metropolitan area to support field operations on commercial and industrial design-build projects in the region. Working under the direction of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent helps manage safety, quality, schedule, and coordination of field activities, and serves as a key KDW representative on the jobsite.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Superintendent in directing day-to-day field operations from mobilization through project closeout
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and supervising the work of subcontractors and field personnel to maintain the project schedule
- Enforce KDW safety standards and OSHA requirements; support site safety meetings and help maintain a zero-incident culture
- Assist with quality control, verifying that work conforms to project plans, specifications, and applicable codes
- Help develop and maintain look-ahead schedules and coordinate material deliveries and site logistics
- Prepare daily reports, progress documentation, and photo records using project management software
- Assist in coordinating inspections with authorities having jurisdiction and third-party inspectors
- Communicate proactively with the Superintendent, Project Manager, design team, and subcontractors to resolve field issues
- Review shop drawings and submittals for constructability and field coordination
- Track punch list completion and support timely project closeout and turnover
Qualifications
- 2+ years of field experience with a commercial general contractor or design-build firm in an Assistant Superintendent, Field Engineer, or similar role
- Resides in the Austin metropolitan area
Preferred Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year institution (Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred)
- Proven experience with construction scheduling software
- Comprehensive understanding of all commercial construction disciplines
- Demonstrated experience in light industrial, manufacturing, and commercial construction projects
- Proficiency in reading, reviewing, and approving shop drawings, fabrication drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to work at elevated heights (30+ feet)
- Physical capability to lift or carry materials and equipment up to 25 pounds
- Willingness to work in extreme outdoor conditions including heat, cold, and rain
- Exposure to construction site environments including fumes, odors, and noise
- Availability for extended hours and weekends based on project requirements
- Valid driver’s license required
