Position Summary
KDW is seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent to lead field operations on commercial and industrial design-build projects across multiple markets. This role requires extensive travel and extended assignments at project sites. The Traveling Superintendent is the on-site leader responsible for safety, quality, schedule, and coordination of all field activities, and serves as KDW’s primary representative on the jobsite.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-site leadership and direct day-to-day field operations from mobilization through project closeout
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of subcontractors and field personnel to maintain the project schedule
- Enforce KDW safety standards and OSHA requirements; lead site safety meetings and maintain a zero-incident culture
- Manage quality control, ensuring all work conforms to project plans, specifications, and applicable codes
- Develop and maintain look-ahead schedules and coordinate material deliveries and site logistics
- Conduct daily reports, progress documentation, and photo records using project management software
- Coordinate inspections with authorities having jurisdiction and third-party inspectors
- Communicate proactively with the Project Manager, design team, client, and subcontractors to resolve field issues
- Review shop drawings and submittals for constructability and field coordination
- Manage punch list completion and support timely project closeout and turnover
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent with a commercial general contractor or design-build firm
- Willingness and ability to travel within the state of Texas and relocate temporarily to project sites for the duration of assignments
Preferred Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year institution (Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred)
- Proven experience with construction scheduling software
- Comprehensive understanding of all commercial construction disciplines
- Demonstrated experience in light industrial, manufacturing, and commercial construction projects
- Proficiency in reading, reviewing, and approving shop drawings, fabrication drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to work at elevated heights (30+ feet)
- Physical capability to lift or carry materials and equipment up to 25 pounds
- Willingness to work in extreme outdoor conditions including heat, cold, and rain
- Exposure to construction site environments including fumes, odors, and noise
- Availability for extended hours and weekends based on project requirements
- Valid driver’s license required
Travel Requirements
This position requires full-time travel to project sites, for project assignments of up to two years. Per diem, travel, and lodging accommodations are provided in accordance with KDW policy.
